March 19′ – End of Month Hodgepodge

It’s the end of the third month of 2019 and that means it’s hodgepodge time.  Pull out your cast iron cauldron and ladle, because we’re throwing you a mix-mash of different cars. Enjoy.

1977 Pontiac Trans Am

You’re cruising down the freeway, T-tops down with the crisp air blowing all around you.  The sun trickles in through the tree canopy as the speedometer needle reaches for another peg.  Your Trans-Am engine rumbles as you cross past a brightly colored billboard.  Your sense heighten, your hair stands on end as your rear-view mirror illuminates blue and red. SHIT!!! It’s the Five-Oh… the Police. You hit the GO pedal with all your might, slamming it to the floor as the transmission downshifts and the V8 roars to life.  You fly down the open country road as the police interceptor becomes a small dot behind you.

Remember the movie “Smokey and the Bandit”? That was a brief intro to get you fired up for the car we spotted today.  While not the iconic Black and Gold Pontiac Trans Am from the movie, the Trans Am we spotted still conjures up images from the movie: 1970’s bravado, chest hair and bell bottom jeans. Now where is the Snowman?!?

Enjoy this spotting, with more to come! And don’t forget to check out other classic Pontiac’s we’ve spotted.

1970 Mercedes 280 SE Coupe

Oh hey, I didn’t notice you there.  I’ve been once again busy finishing up a film project.  Remember that one I thought I was finished with? Turns out we had to do some pick ups and re-shoots so NOW I am officially finished.

And with that, I bring you an early 1970’s SE coupe by Mercedes-Benz.  I wish I had my nicer camera with me when I spotted this beauty.  The two tone color looks fantastic in person, and the car is an overall clean example of early 1970’s Benz styling.

And check out some of old school Mercedes-Benz’s we’ve spotted:

1971 Mercedes Benz 280s (W108)

1974 Mercedes-Benz 280C (W114)

1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Wagon (W123)

February 19′ – End of Month Hodgepodge

Hey all,

The show I have been working on so feverishly is now finally complete (except for one more week this month of pick-up shots).  Needless to say, LACS has been neglected. Here to start off the month of March is February’s hodgepodge – a bit delayed but here none-the-less. We have some trucks, van, a classic mustang, Chevy nova and a nice E30 BMW. Enjoy

1994 Subaru SVX

Gasp in the awe-inspiring greatness of the Subaru Vehicle X!!!!  The SVX is actually nothing too special, apart from that window in a window thing they got going.  It was a one-off, 1 generation vehicle from Subaru that didn’t stick.  It is an attractive car in my opinion, but lacks the RWD layout it deserves.  This one is in fantastic shape and is sporting some aftermarket rims that fit the style perfectly.  Kudos SVX owner, well done. Enjoy.

1981 Datsun 280zx 2+2

1981 Datsun 280zx here, get your Z cars here! This 280ZX we spotted is the 2+2 version, which extends the standard 280zx look to accommodate 2 seats in the back – but who the heck needs those! Also a shame with this generation of the ZX models, is that they became much softer, heavier compared to the previous 260 and 240 models.  Screw handling and driving feel, Americans demanded refinement and comfort! None-the-less, we enjoy seeing this car parked on the street and want to share it with you.

Sorry for the lapse in posts. I have been working on a Netlfix Show that is really sapping all of my free time and energy.

And check out some other Z’s we’ve spotted:

1976 Datsun 280z

1980 Datsun 280ZX – 10th Anniversary

Cheers!

1989 Dodge Raider

Hey there, look what we have spotted recently – the gloriously boxy and small SUV from Dodge in the late 1980’s – dubbed the “Raider”.  Now this car is basically a re-badged Mitsubishi Pajero and that’s OK with us, in matter of fact it probably makes this Dodge SUV more competent. This boxy two-door SUV checks all the boxes for LACS. Enjoy

And check out some other small boxy SUVs we’ve spotted:

1985 Ford Bronco II

1986 Suzuki Samurai (Jimny)

1960 Chevrolet C20 Pickup

Spotted this 1960 Chevy C20 pickup after the rain subsided.  I have a particular distaste to the styling of the 1960-1961 Chevy C/K trucks. Mostly, it’s the turn signals and embellishment around them that kills it for me.  The rest of the truck is fine, but I can’t support those nostrils on the front end.  This is just an opinion and and here at LACS, we accept all cars as equal… no matter how ugly they are. Enjoy.

And check out some other Chevy pickups we have spotted:

1965 Chevrolet C-10 Pickup

1982 Chevrolet Silverado C10 Pickup

1972 Plymouth Duster

Spotted another classic American machine meandering the streets of LA. As with many of the old cars we spot, this one looks like it’s seen it’s fair share of activity. The Duster shared the Valiant platform (and thus the Dodge Dart) and also rocked the same front end sheet metal as the Plymouth Valiant, but featured a different design from the cowl back.

The Duster, as with a lot of the American made cars in this time period, had yearly tweaks to it’s design and function.  More information about these can be found on the Wikipedia site.

Also, check out some other Plymouth vehicles we’ve spotted:

1963 Plymouth Valiant Signet 200

1964 Plymouth Valiant

1970 Plymouth Valiant Sedan

1966 Mercedes 230 Sedan

Spotted a Mercedes 230 sedan parked down the street from the last Volvo 122s we spotted in our last post. Our testament of keeping old vehicles road worthy still stands, so this Mercedes-Benz has captured that special place in our hearts. Enjoy.

And check out some other Classic Mercedes vehicles we have spotted:

1971 Mercedes Benz 280s (W108)

1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Wagon (W123)

Early 1960’s Volvo P122s Sedan (Amazon)

Here we have what appears to be an early 1960’s Volvo P122s Sedan or the “Volvo Amazon” as other countries outside the United States received it.  I can’t pinpoint the exact model year or trim level since I was across a busy street when I took this.  This Volvo is not the cleanest example around, but hey – it’s older than most people I know and looks better than they do at 50+ years 😉  In all seriousness, I’m glad that somebody is driving this Volvo around.  As we know, cars are meant to be a driven and I can applaud people that keeps a car running for so long.

On a side note, I think it is only a matter of time before electric drive-trains become commonplace as engine swaps for classic vehicles. Sacrilege or fantastic? You decide.
